Here is one of the 6 block prints done by professional artist Lisa Hendrickson Kaiser, the daughter of Doris and Bob Hendrickson whom we all know and love. We have varying sizes, designs and colors.  Lisa is making quite a name for herself. Here's a chance to become one of those collectors who bought an artist that later was SOMEONE. These are the pieces that got the silent auction started.

Professionally framed (as all the prints) this is one of four measuring 10" X 11".  The largest measures 25" X 30". We are valuing this one at $50.00.

Emoty Bowls Story

We are having our Empty Bowls Dinner Friday February 25th at the FOP building in Radford.  Why is this fundraiser called Empty Bowls. Part of it is obvious. WE need to fill the empty bowls of the hungry.  Currently in Radford  44.77 %   of  children are on free and reduced lunch at McHarg Elementary and 43.79 at Belle Heth; we have nearly 1000 families on food stamps in the City ; the number of households receiving food 2010 at the Radford Firehouse n Mondays and Fridays was  5,839.

The title however, means more than that. It also means we CARE.  Here is the story:

Empty Bowls Story

Once upon a time . . . a man died. The Great Spirit, known to different religions by different names, asked the man where he wanted to go, heaven or hell. The man said “Let me see hell.” He went there and found himself in a dining room. The tables were heaped with food, the bowls were filled with food, yet everyone was thin and gaunt. At each place each person sat with a three foot long spoon struggling to feed themselves. But their arms were too short. Despite all the food, the people were starving.
Then the man went to heaven. There too he was in a dining room. The tables were heaped with food, but the bowls were empty. The people were well fed and happy. Each had a three foot spoon. How could this be? Then he saw. Each person filled their own bowl with food from the platters and proceeded to feed each other, emptying their bowl into the mouth of another person.
